5 Types of Wealth Series for Yachties— Week 4: Physical Wealth (+Something's Coming 👀)
Six-Pack on the Outside, Burnout on the Inside
Dear readers,
Let’s talk about Physical Wealth — the kind that rarely shows up on your bank app, but shows up in every other area of your life.
(Stay tuned until the end of the newsletter as I have something important to share with you!)
As yacht crew, we look fit. We move constantly. We sweat. We climb stairs, lift things, squeeze into impossible engine room corners, and somehow balance twelve plates and six cocktails on a floating hotel.
But fit doesn’t always mean healthy.
Chronic dehydration? Check.
Broken circadian rhythm? Every season.
Low back pain from doing a contortionist act in the bilge? That too.
Cheeky snack from the sweet cupboard when no one's looking? You know who you are.
Yachting demands movement, but it rarely prioritizes recovery, rest, or nutrition. And that’s a dangerous combo. You can look lean in the mirror and still be one burnout away from a breakdown.
The 80/20 of Health
Health doesn’t need to be complicated. In fact, I think most crew would thrive just by dialing in three basics:
Nutrition: Eat mostly whole foods, hydrate like you’re a camel in a desert.
Sleep: Prioritize it like you do your watch schedule.
Movement: A little resistance training and cardio go a long way.
This is the 80/20 principle at work. 20% of habits = 80% of results. No need to be a monk. Just cut out the constant sugar hits and keep your body moving with intention.
This was my first ultra-marathon in North Carolina a year ago. Soaking in the joys of being able to push my body beyond of what I thought was possible.

75 Hard on a Boat (Not For the Faint-Hearted)
Right now, my fiancée and I are doing 75 Hard — no booze, no sugar, clean eating, 2 workouts a day, and more.
It’s a beast, especially on a yacht:
Random crew meals that don’t fit your diet
Temptation in the pantry every time you’re "just looking for a spoon"
Watch schedule that nukes your sleep goals
Zero privacy for workouts
But here’s the truth: if it matters, you make a plan — not an excuse. You don’t have to do 75 Hard, but you do need to find a rhythm that keeps your engine running smoothly.
Can You Enjoy the Wealth You're Building?
What good is financial wealth if your body’s falling apart by 50?
Too many yachties grind for years, only to retire with bad knees, a gut full of ulcers, and a drinking habit that costs more than it ever gave.
Look, I’m not here to preach, but if you’re smashing beers after every shift and thinking “I deserve this” — I hear you. I’ve been there. But alcohol is a silent thief, robbing you of deep sleep, recovery, mental clarity, and long-term wealth.
Be honest with yourself: is your body going to be able to enjoy the freedom you’re working so hard to buy?
👇 PS: Your Body’s Not the Only Thing That Needs a Plan
Most yachties work their asses off…
💰 Make serious coin
💸 Spend most of it
📉 Hit burnout
🤷♂️ Repeat the cycle
It’s not your fault — no one taught us how to build real wealth.

In Summary:
Yachting makes you look fit, but it doesn’t mean you’re healthy.
Sleep, food, water, and movement are your best investments.
I’m doing 75 Hard and it’s a challenge — but it's possible.
Don’t let a broken body stop you from enjoying your financial freedom.
The richest person in the hospital still can't go for a hike.
Next week: we wrap up the series with the final pillar — Financial Wealth. But don’t get it twisted — none of this matters if your physical shell is breaking down.
Until then, stay strong. Lift heavy. Drink water. Say no to the crew fridge brownies (or at least just have one).
